Congregation of the Sisters of St. Michael the
The blessed Father Bronisław Markiewicz (1842-1912), spiritual son of saint John Bosco, a great preceptor of children and young persons, apostle of abstinence, clergyman..., founded at the end of XIX century the Congregations of Fathers and Sisters of St. Michael the Archangel.
The decisive role at foundation of the Congregation of Sisters of St. Michael the Archangel played the Servant of God, Anna Kaworek (1872-1936), who after the death of Father Markiewicz took over the burden of responsibility for the fate of sisters and foster-girls as well as for the spiritual inheritance left by the Founder. Thanks to her dedication and heroic hope, the sisters continued persistently providing service to the poorest people, built a cloister and achieved the recognition of the Congregation (1928). At present, her beatification process is conducted in Rome.
The purpose of St. Michael monastic families is adoration of God after example of our Patron St. Michael the Archangel and providing service to the neighbors, especially to the poor ones, to abandoned children and young persons, according to the principle of "temperance and work".
The Sisters of St. Michael work at present in many places in Poland, running children's homes, kindergardens, common rooms, and a home for single mothers with children. They also work as catechists, nurses, sextons and organists. The Congregation extended its apostolic and educative activities into other countries. The sisters run missions in Cameroun, work in France, Germany, Italy, Belarus and Ukraine.
